Junk Food Collage project

Project: Junk Food Collage

Materials: oil pastels, paper, pencil, and eraser

Part 1: Answer the following questions.

1. In your own words how do you define junk food? 
2. Why do you think the term junk food is used?
3. What are your favorite junk foods?
4. What is the appeal of junk food to consumers?
5. What do you think are some of the negatives of junk food consumption?
6. If someone made the statement that “Junk food is NOT eco friendly” what do you think the person means by that? 

Part 2: Decide what your favorite junk food is by creating a list. Research images of your favorite junk food- not just the packaging, but the "food" itself, note the colors, texture, the feel, look at it close up, etc. Once you have done this, make a sketch(s) using paper and pencil by collaging all your junk food together to form a composition. The numbers of ways you can approach this infinite. See example below.

Part 3: Below are the way artists have interpreted junk food.Look at the examples to inspire your creative idea.

Art Appreciation Project

Assignment

Step 1: Below are 20 images, In a Google Doc I want you to rank them in order by their letter starting with number one being your favorite. You might want to click on the image for better detail. 
(Example: 1. G, 2. B, 3. M....20. A)
Step 2: What were your top three images and what where you bottom three?
(Example: Top 3: A, H, and M Bottom 3: B,Q, and L)

Step 3: Answer the following questions about each of your TOP three favorite images. (Your responses must be in complete sentences)
a) Why did this image appeal to you?
b) What do you think the image is about?
c) What do you think the artist is trying to communicate with her/his artwork?
d) Would you have this artwork in your home, why or why not?
Example of Step 3: (Use this format)
Image B: 
a) I like how all the bicycles are welded together to form a complex and interesting sculpture.
b) I think the image is about unity because all the bicycles are connected.
c) The artist is communicating the importance of bicycles in societies where it is the primary form of transportation. 
d) I don't have a space to display this sculpture in my house, but If I did I would certainly like to have it at home. 

Step 4: Answer the following questions about each of your BOTTOM three least favorite images. (Your answers must be in complete sentences)
a) Why didn't you like the image?
b) What do you think the images is about?
c) What do you think the artist is trying to communicate with her/his artwork?
